Some time ago, Coombabah High donated their unwanted sports uniforms which I sent to a school teacher friend in Madang. This is the story of how they’re now being put to use.
“Attached are photos of the jerseys/ sports uniforms which you donated a year ago. It’s very late sending these photos now but since I now have the opportunity to, I feel I have too.
This basketball and volleyball tournament is organised in my community currently to keep youths away from troubles of drinking. I was surprised to see teams coming into playing courts with the uniforms I gave long time ago.
The green uniform with all 228 number on has been donated to a team in the nearby village”.
We’re constantly sending containers – and have two sitting at our depot in Underwood. One is to go to Lae – from where it will be delivered to remote village between Lae and Goroka. The other is to go to Pai [near Tari] in the Highlands. This one will be unpacked at a large school and text books would be very welcome.
Also, if you would know of any Primary School teachers who could ask their librarians for books this would be greatly appreciated. The village schools desperately need elementary readers as 7-out-of-10 are unable to read.
