In order to curb the mortality rate of one-in-twenty-eight mothers or babies dying during childbirth in PNG, an Australian Gynae/Obstetrician designed the “Birthing Kit” consisting of:-
A; Large piece of plastic; To provide a clean surface on which the mother will lie to give birth.
B; 2 x pieces cotton string; To tie the umbilical cord
C; 1 x razor blade/ or, if available, we send a disposable scalpel; To cut the umbilical cord
D; 1 pair rubber gloves; For assistant [if someone is available!]
E; 1 x piece of soap and pieces of clean toweling.
